The Relationship Between AST/ALT Ratio and Metabolic Syndrome in Han Young Adults – AST/ALT Ratio and Metabolic Syndrome
نویسندگان
چکیده
In previous studies, the relationship between aspartate aminotransferase to alanine aminotransferase ratio(AST/ALT ratio) and liver disease has been evaluated. In viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease and primary biliary cirrhosis, AST/ALT ratio has been proven to be an indicator of liver cirrhosis.1-3 AST/ALT ratio was a potential value in differentiating nonalcoholic steatohepatitis from alcoholic liver disease. The value < 1 suggestted nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, a ratio of ≥ 2 was strongly suggestive of alcoholic liver disease.4

Incremental Predictive Value of Serum AST-to-ALT Ratio for Incident Metabolic Syndrome: The ARIRANG Study
AIMS The ratio of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) to alanine aminotransferase (ALT) is of great interest as a possible novel marker of metabolic syndrome. However, longitudinal studies emphasizing the incremental predictive value of the AST-to-ALT ratio in diagnosing individuals at higher risk of developing metabolic syndrome are very scarce. Therefore, our study aimed to evaluate the AST-to-A...

BACKGROUND Elevated liver enzymes are markers of liver steatosis and metabolic syndrome. We aimed to investigate the association of Mediterranean diet on the relationship between aminotransferases (i.e., AST, ALT, gGT) and the metabolic syndrome. METHODS The ATTICA study has randomly enrolled 1514 adult males (18-87 yrs) and 1528 females (18-89 yrs) from the greater area of Athens. Adherence ...
متن کاملSerum alanine aminotransferase/aspartate aminotransferase ratio is one of the best markers of insulin resistance in the Chinese population
BACKGROUND The alanine aminotransferase (ALT)/aspartate aminotransferase (AST) ratio is reportedly associated with insulin resistance (IR). However, few studies have explored the relationship between the ALT/AST ratio and IR in the Chinese population. Here, we aimed to explore whether the ALT/AST ratio is associated and, if so, to what extent, with IR in the Chinese population as categorized by...
متن کاملLiver markers and development of the metabolic syndrome: the insulin resistance atherosclerosis study.
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is emerging as a component of the metabolic syndrome, although it is not known whether markers of NAFLD, including elevated concentrations of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and alkaline phosphatase (ALK), predict the development of metabolic syndrome. Our objective was to investigate the associations of elevated AST, AL...
متن کاملMetabolic Syndrome and Serum Liver Enzymes in the General Chinese Population.
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to evaluate the associations between alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) with metabolic syndrome (MetS) in the general Chinese population. METHODS This study was a multicenter, cross-sectional study which was conducted in rural areas of China from the 2012 to 2013 Northeast China Rural Cardiovascular Health Study (NCRCHS), a...
